Beginner Couponing Tips | 6 Items for $20 + 2 Free Wet N Wild Products!

February 21, 2018Beauty0

Once you’re a broke college student, you remain one for life. Money is always on our mind and we’re always learning. That’s great though because our good spending habits will come in handy when life gets too expensive. I apply this to makeup and stumbled across couponing. My mom and I started watching some YouTube videos on beginner couponing and got some makeup for the low!

Beginner couponing is a great way to build a makeup collection. You can get many good deals on skincare, hair care and beauty products. Household items can be scored for good prices too — my mom basically got Arm & Hammer Laundry Detergent for $1. If something is on sale, there’s usually a good offer attached to it with coupons so you can save even more! Watch the channels I recommended; they’re super helpful!

Here are our tips:

  1. Sign up for CVS and Walgreens cards. The app lets you add digital coupons and see the weekly ad. CVS lets you rack up Extra Bucks Rewards depending on what you buy. For example, the current weekly ad has an for offer for $5 Extra Bucks when you buy $15 worth of e.l.f. cosmetics. It’s basically cash back for you to spend at CVS on almost anything (alcohol, gift cards and cigarettes are excluded).
  2. Download Ibotta and Flip. Ibotta allows you to scan the receipt to receive some cash back. You can only cash out when you reach $20 and you can link it to PayPal.
  3. Get the Sunday newspaper (yeah, that’s still a thing lol). It costs $3 at easily accesible places like Walgreens, but the amount of coupons you get basically makes it free. And once a month, P&G releases a bundle of great coupons. Act fast; the newspapers run out fast!  x
  4. Watch couponing YouTubers. These YouTubers also give additional tips for beginner couponing and make it easy for anyone! They’ll tell you all the coupons you need and in what order to give them to the cashier to scan.
  5. Elaborating on the last point, be mindful of the order of the coupons. Dollar off totals (e.g. $3 of $12 of  cosmetics at CVS) go first. Percentage off coupons (if you have them) go next. Lastly, coupons for individual items follow!
  6. If you have coupons that give you a gift card based on a purchase amount (e.g. $5 gift card at Target for a $20 beauty purchase) give it first if its a print coupon. Places like Publix need it first because the cash register won’t recognize it at the end even if the total purchase amount before coupons met the requirement. If it’s a digital coupon, the cash register will automatically apply it.
  7. Coupons don’t waive taxes. Even if your order is totally free, you will still be required to pay for taxes. P.S. CVS Extra Bucks can’t be used to pay for taxes!

My Coupon Hauls Hehe

Keeping these beginner couponing tips in mind, I was able to get 6 items for $20 about 2 weeks ago at CVS. I got 2 Garnier Sheet Masks, 2 Garnier Skin Active Face Washes, L’Oréal Lash Paradise and L’Oréal Brow Stylist. First, I used a $4 off $12 of L’Oréal Cosmetics and the whole brand was buy one get one 50% off. Next, I used a $2 off $7 Garnier Skin Active purchase. Lastly, I used a 20% off total purchase coupon that was mailed to me.

Aaaaanddd when my mom bought the Sunday newspaper, it brought some Wet N Wild coupons. I got their Lash Renegade Mascara and new cushion foundation for only 84¢!!! I used a $4 off $10 of Wet N Wild coupon, a 50¢ off any Wet N Wild product coupon and $2 off any Wet N Wild foundation. Luckily for me, Wet N Wild was buy one get one half off! Also, I used $5.50 in CVS Extra Bucks. My order was free so all I had to pay for was tax ?

Wet N Wild Gel Polish Review

July 4, 2017Affordable, Makeup Product Reviews0

Long time no see… ? I didn’t correctly welcome myself back in yesterday’s post! I came back from study abroad and I’m finally getting settled with my blog again! I have lots of interesting things to share. However, let’s focus on some nail polish I’ve been using for quite some time: 1 Step WonderGel Nail Color.

I first bough this nail polish last year when Kathleenlights was raving about it. Disclaimer: whatever Kathleenlights says goes. Naturally, I picked up the first color on the left: Condensed Milk.

This color, unfaithful to its stickers on the bottle, is a neutral nude polish. It isn’t streaky, but it’s fully opaque with two coats.

The brush tip is pretty large, making it easier to coat the nail with one dip into the bottle. I can get away with painting my smaller nails with one stroke.

As for the wear of this nail polish, it definitely doesn’t last 2 weeks like a typical gel manicure. I can get a good week out of this nail polish without major chips. I get tiny lil chips at the sides and ends of my nails that aren’t noticeable until I examine my nail or look at them in a specific angle.

This nail polish is more suited for those that change their polish color weekly. I’m that person ?? so this polish meets my needs. I only rock nail polish for 2 weeks when I have acrylic nails.

I think the price and color range are excellent. At only $5, you’re getting a nice manicure for a week with nice colors seen at nail salons. Wet N Wild recently added 3 new shades, further catering to the need to have our nails looking fleeky.

If you enjoy weekly, at-home manicures, I give this nail polish a 4/5. If you seek manicures that last at least 10 days without major chips, this won’t be your jam and it’ll be a 3/5.

What nail polishes do you recommend? I can’t stand OPI or Essie ??

Favorite False Eyelashes

April 2, 2017Makeup Product Reviews0

I love to make a look “extra” with some false eyelashes. If I’m in the mood to feel glam, I’ll draw a sharp wing, pop on some falsies and wear a bright or bold lipstick.

My favorite kind of lashes are the ones that are wispy and seemingly feathered. It’s hard to find styles like these are affordable. I just can’t bring myself to purchase $20+ mink lashes!

Luckily, I stumbled across my ideal falsie style on eBay. Yes, eBay. They don’t really have a name so click here! eBay is actually a hot spot and my preferred place for buying eyelashes. My favorite in store alternative are Ardell and Andrea Lashes.

Makeup details: Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow in Medium Brown, e.l.f. Cosmetics Clear Brow Gel, Kat Von D Beauty Tattoo Liner in Trooper + Wet N Wild, Maybelline Big Shot Mascara

I meaaaaannnnn, these lashes are so sultry and delicious lmao. The band is perfect and feels comfortable on my eyes. I can barely feel these eyelashes when I wear them. They blend easily into my natural lashes.

I know that some people might be skeptical about purchasing anything related to cosmetics from eBay, but it’s all about trial and error! It’s so affordable and worth trying. I honestly haven’t had a miss yet, so I’ll keep trying. Expect more eBay makeup reviews!

Would you try these lashes and more from eBay? ?  Let me know in the comments below!

Go-to Glowy Glam

November 1, 2016Beauty, Makeup looks0

My go-to makeup as of late has been anything to make me look glowy. I feel like that’s when my skin looks its best and healthiest. I contour my eyes just a little bit, warm up my face (I loveeee orangey bronzers) and pack on the highlighter in a circular motion to get a glow that seems to stem all over.

I feel like this look can be worn regardless of the season. It can be played up and varied by changing the lip color. I love this look best with a glossy lip, but I’ll show variations of this look with fall appropriate lip options soon!

I’m a little extra and I wore this to school, but I felt like it’s wearable enough to wear it everyday! I even think that the lashes are suitable for everyday ?

Product details:

  • NYC Smooth Skin Bronzing Powder and Liquid Eyeliner
  • BH Cosmetics Nude Blush 10 Color Blush Palette (second darkest shade for bronzer on top of NYC one)
  • NYX Strobe of Genius Highlighting Palette and Dewy Setting Spray
  • L’Oreal Brow Stylist Definer in Brunette
  • Wet n Wild UltimateBrow Mascara in Nothing But Bru-Nette
  • Kat Von D Shade and Light Eye Contour Palette
  • Wet N Wild MegaSlicks Lip Gloss in Sunkissed
  • Falsies I ordered off of eBay

Are you into glowy looks this fall season? Or do you prefer vampy makeup? I feel like I need both lol. Expect a vampy look soon ?

Go-To Summer Makeup Routine

July 5, 2016Beauty, Beauty Routines0

Hello, my fellow makeup junkies ??✨

For the past couple of days, I’ve been playing around with my makeup, and I stumbled across what is my go-to summer makeup routine. I created a glowy, dewy fresh and  “effortless,” but minimal look for the summer. I have really dry skin and I’m pretty pale, so I aimed to make my skin look as healthy as can be. Ultimately, I wanted to look sun-kissed.

IMG_9546

My makeup look for Fourth of July.

Products used:

  • Wet N Wild MegaGlo All-In-One Highlighting Stick in Marigold Round
  • Benefit Cosmetics Goof Proof Eyebrow Pencil in 03 Medium
  • Maybelline Eye Studio Brow Drama Scuplting Brow Mascara in Soft Brown
  • New York Color Smooth Skin Bronzing Face Powder in Sunny
  • e.l.f. Pressed Mineral Blush in Sweet Retreat
  • Kat Von D Beauty Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Mother
  • Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette on the eyes
  • New York Color High Definition Liquid Eyeliner pen

I wore this look differently a few other times, but this recent look has been my favorite. I think what makes it work so well is that it’s monochromatic. Using blush and pink tones all over my face makes everything look so soft and blended. I’m interested in creating a similar look like this, but with cool tones!

I definitely see myself repeating this look for the rest of summer. Using no foundation makes it a go-to look for me; I only use foundation when I’m feeling sum typa way.

What’s your go-to summer look? Have you tried any of the products I’ve used? Do you have any summer product recommendations for me? Let me know in the comments below!

Ballin-On-A-Budget Brows ? | Brow Routine

March 9, 2016Beauty, Beauty Routines0

I hope all of you are having a lovely and makeup-filled week ?✨

This is another one of my artworks about makeups! I carved an eyebrow tutorial onto a linoleum block. I thought it’d be cool to share my drugstore brow routine with you all!

As seen in the pictorial above:

  1. Step 1 is to pluck any stray hairs. I always remove any lil hairs that are growing out of my eyebrow shape. I do this until I’m able to get my brows done, which is usually once a month because my brows are rather sparse.  I never pluck any hair from the brow itself. I trust my brow guy with all my heart, so I just try to keep his masterpiece in check.
  2. Step 2 is to fill in the brow with an eyebrow pencil. I start filling in my brow in the middle and go down into the tail of my brow. I apply more pressure towards the tail to define it and less pressure at the beginning so it doesn’t look harsh. I create hair-like strokes. It’s helpful to draw a line under the brow and draw in an upwards motion. I try to keep my brows looking fairly natural; bold brows are not my thing. My preferred eyebrow pencils are the wet n wild Color Icon Brow Pencil in Brunettes Do It Better and the e.l.f. cosmetics Instant Lift Brow Pencil in Neutral Brown.
  3. Step 3 is to lock in the brow with an eyebrow mascara. One of the most important things to do in makeup is to set products. For example, you use powder to set a cream contour, foundation and concealer. Same goes for brows. Eyebrow pencils and powders must be set with an eyebrow gel or mascara. The only drugstore eyebrow mascara I’ve tried is the Maybelline Brow Drama Sculpting Brow Mascara in Soft Brown. The wand is a lil weird — it has a ball-like shape at the beginning. (I can review this for you all soon!) It keeps my brows in place allllllll day.
  4. Step 4 is to clean up the brow. I tend to make a small mess when I fill in my brows. I usually use a makeup wipe (as shown in the pictorial) because I fill in my brows before applying any sort of makeup product. Cleaning up your brows the same concealer you use to highlight your under eye area is also okay — I tried this recently and it lifts the brow nicely. It’s just a matter of preference.

I hope you all enjoyed this lil eyebrow pictorial! If you’d like more, please let me know in the comments below! Also, don’t be afraid to request reviews of any of the products I mentioned.

Highlight, Hunty! (Fave Drugstore Highlighters ATM)

February 20, 2016Makeup Product Reviews0

I made an Instagram for the blog! @yolauralikesbeauty Expect mini hauls, MOTDs, makeup news, makeup memes & more! ?

For tonight, I wanna talk about a favorite product of mine — highlighters  ✨ My dry skin pushes me to always make my skin look as healthy as possible. I feel like having a glowy look deters attention from my dry patches lol.

I’ve only tried drugstore highlighters, but they’re so great that if I never have the chance to use a high end one, I’ll be okay.

Highlight, Hunty. Relief print. Laura Guerra. 2016.

Enjoy this print of me illustrating the areas where I highlight and expressing my love for highlighting! (Art is my first love and I feel like it sparked my interest in makeup to an extent. I’ve been focusing on making art that talks about makeup culture and the makeup community. Expect more of my art in my posts ?)

My holy grail highlighters are:

e.l.f. cosmetics Facial Whip in Golden Peach — This is the only cream highlighter I’ve tried, and I gotta say that cream highlighters are awesome. This product makes me want to venture in the bright and intimidating world of cream/liquid highlighters. This really packs a punch. I usually squeeze a little bit onto the back of my hand and use the e.l.f. cosmetics Small Stipple Brush to dab onto the high points of my cheek. I apply a small amount of this and only onto the top of my cheeks because my skin is very fair and it looks garish if I over do it or apply it elsewhere. For someone with olive skin and a deeper skin tone, this would be perfect for highlighting all over the face. I chose this color rather than one that is lighter and more ideal for my skin tone because I really wanted a gold highlighter. It costs $1 and it can’t be beat! A 5/5 for me.

Wet n Wild Coloricon Bronzer SPF 15 in Reserve Your Cabana — This puppy was the first highlighter that I ever purchased. I saw emilynoel83 (can also be found at beautybroadcastexpress on YT) rave about it in a YT video. I wonder who uses this as a bronzer because it’s so light lol. Anyway, I must admit that I didn’t like it at first. I expected my highlight to be poppin’ after one swipe. After watching several beauty gurus, particularly the highlight goddess Amra Olevic @amrezy on Instagram and SnapChat, I learned that a highlight must be packed on. This product is buildable and creates such a beautiful glow. I like using it the most whenever I want to create a natural makeup look because the shade of this is perfect for that. I learned to love it and I feel like a glowy goddess whenever I use this. This highlighter costs $3.99 and helps get the glow done! A 4/5 for me.

Wet n Wild MegaGlo Illuminating Powder in Catwalk Pink — This highlighter was an instant favorite and still is. I wanted a pinky highlighter because I have pink undertones. This highlighter is great because it has 4 strips of color. I take this whenever I’ve traveled because the first strip on the left is similar to Reserve Your Cabana, so I’m able to use it for more natural makeup days. I like to swirl my brush in all four of the colors and get a nice, pinky glow. This pinkness is subtle and that’s something that’s totally fine with me. This highlighter is also $3.99. It’s currently on sale for $1.99 on the link I provided! I give this a 5/5.

I also really like the highlight from the City Color Cosmetics Contour Effects 2 palette, which I reviewed here.

If you’ve tried these highlighters or have recommendations of other drugstore highlighters, let me know what you think!
